10 Reasons Why Writing a Book Will Scale Your Business

Have you ever written a book? Or have you, at least, ever thought about writing a book? Most people have. But what they think about first is novels and other works of fiction. This blog post is about writing a non-fiction book that could help elevate your business to the next level. There are several reasons for writing one, some of which I have outlined below.

1. A book is an interesting conversation starter

Don’t be like everyone else and don’t pitch your product or service to everyone around you. People are not interested in you or your company – that‘s the harsh truth. What they are interested in is their own business, hobbies, and personality. They might even read books about those topics already. Instead of offering information about your company, find out what your target audience is interested in, write about it, and then share it with them. Sooner or later they will come back to you, wanting to do business, if your book is relevant to whatever they are doing. This will also make you stand out from the rest.

2. A book is a converting lead magnet

In online marketing, it is very common to ask people for their email addresses to send them marketing materials over a longer period of time. And while it’s becoming harder and harder to get qualified leads, giving away a free book (paper or e-book) is an easy way to get people’s attention and curiosity. With an attractive title, design, and description, it’s guaranteed to become a powerful and compelling tool. After all, who doesn’t like free stuff?

3. A book can multiply you several times

You can’t work 24/7, but your book can. If you send it out to interested prospects, it can work as a salesperson while you are enjoying your free time. A novel won‘t do the trick, it has to be a book that your target audience perceives as valuable for their business. This will lead them to take a certain action, like getting in touch because they want to buy from you. Even if it doesn’t happen immediately, putting yourself out there with a good book will guarantee, that they will keep you in the back of their minds and when the right time comes, they will think of you.

4. A book can give you authority and expert status

Believe it or not, you are immediately perceived as an expert if you have written a book. Of course, that may not be entirely true, but the simple fact, that you are an author certainly makes people see you as such and earns you their respect. This, of course, will lead to more people buying from you because they trust you & your authority more than your competitors. That’s why you have to make sure you really know what you’re doing and have the necessary skills and knowledge to live up to people’s expectations. And you need to make sure your book is well written and provides actual value, otherwise, it can undermine your expertise.

5. A book builds your brand

Writing your own book for your business is one thing you can do to scale. Another option is to let several experts write books under your brand. This way your company can act as a publisher for books about topics that are relevant to your brand. Those books can be written by people who are affiliated with your company to help them market themselves and help you market your brand. It‘s a win-win situation.

6. A book can market your persona

What is a great PR tool, used by the most famous entrepreneurs? A biography! A book written about you, stuffed extensively with relevant and exciting information, will change the perception people have about you. People love to read about exceptional figures and interesting personalities. Reading your biography might even change how people behave when dealing with you. However, keep it real and do not exaggerate too much.

7. A book can educate clients and customers

Very complex topics like structural engineering or medical advances in a certain area may need a little bit more than a few blog posts as an explanation. If people know more about it then they will care about the topic and your solution – but first, they need to understand. Writing an actual book gives you the opportunity to explain everything with simple words and in detail, providing examples and making the information accessible.

8. A book can give them advice too

Sometimes, a few nice and encouraging words are all you need. Yes, your ultimate goal is to grow your business and find customers. However, showing compassion and how much you care is still important because, after all, we are dealing with humans who are highly emotional creatures. If you understand their concerns and could even help them to see their problems in a different way, they may perceive you as a friend and it will strengthen your connection to them. Because sometimes, we just need someone who understands us and relates to our problems.

9. A book might change their perspective

Do you want to change public opinion? Whether you focus on one single person or a whole collective, writing a book on a topic that is interesting to them might change their perspective and therefore their behavior in the long run. How is that important to your business? Well, if you sell X, and your book explains and shows facts that consuming more of X will lead to a better life, people might start consuming more of X. This strategy has been used extensively in public relations and is a good way to educate and create awareness of your product.

10. A book will stay forever

Do you keep brochures at your house? Most people don’t. But do you know what people like to keep at home? Books. They look good and make everyone seem intelligent – the author and the reader both alike. Books are a great marketing tool and you should probably write a few of them to at least remind your clients that you still exist. Nobody throws books away so they will stay as a reminder about you and your company on their bookshelf.
